If you want to be better, you must hear this hard truth
We tell ourselves people like our work, but have you ever asked for the brutal truth? And if you don’t like it, what will you do about it?
The other day, I found myself sitting down for dinner with a woman I’d just met. She’s a consultant, a speaker, someone who runs online courses and workshops. The conversation quickly turned to business, and she was looking for advice. Her business was stuck, and she was hoping I could help her get it back on track.
But before I even said a word, she threw out a request: “Don’t go too hard on me, okay? I might get my feelings hurt.”
My immediate response? “Let me give you tough love.” She hesitated for a moment, but after a beat, she agreed. It was clear she wanted help, but wasn’t sure she was ready for the blunt truth. Still, I pushed forward. Tough love is the only way to grow, after all.
Here’s the thing: I’m not here to hold your hand. If you want your business to evolve, you need to step up. I’m here to help you figure out what’s working and what’s not. And you need to take all that in, then build a plan and execute it. If you see change, great—you did something. If you don’t, maybe it’s time to rethink your path altogether.
